Bottom relining is used to renew the bottom part of an existing, otherwise usable, pipe bridge. The installation is done without cutting off traffic. The service life of the rebuilt structure is from 25 to 50 years, depending on the method.
The old structure can be of any shape, a similar new structure can be found for it.
The whole relining is used to repair an aged or damaged road culvert or bridge, regardless of material and shape.
The overwhelming advantage of the relining lies in the fact that the entire repair project can be carried out without disturbing the actual road or the traffic on it. The gap between the new and old pipes is usually concreted.
All ViaCon road culverts can be used as a relining . The dimensioning shall take into account that the flow requirements of the opening are met. The size of the opening is determined by the designer of the object.
The idea of the extension pipe is to use ViaCon’s standard pipe, to which a fitting suitable for the old pipe is connected. There is no need to dismantle the existing structure, and the connection work does not interfere with traffic. In this way, it is easy to build a light rail next to an existing road or widen the traffic area, for example.
The foundation work is similar to that of a regular culvert of pipe bridge. Due to the sufficient connection length, the connection is sturdy. The joint does not open even if the bottom under the extension tube sags. It is also possible to make intermediate wells. The length and bevels of the extension are freely selectable.
The installation can be done without disturbing traffic.
Installation is possible in both frosty and hot weather. For pipes, a suitable temperature range is -50-+50 °C.
A repair structure provides up to 50 years of additional service life for an old structure.
High-strength steel, corrosion protection and reduced construction ensure a long service life of structures. The pipes can be designed with either hot-dip galvanizing or an additional 300 μm polymer layer on both sides. Up to a certain size, pipes can also be made of marine grade aluminum.
The carbon dioxide emissions and energy and water consumption of steelmaking are significantly lower than those of concrete production. Steel is also an environmentally friendly material, as it is 100% reusable. In addition, the quick installation of pipes does little to pollute the environment.
